How To Build Your Credit Score In 3 Easy Steps

When you first start building your credit score it can be hard to know where to start and even harder to get people to trust you with a zero credit rating. While it may feel like you’re being punished before you’ve committed a crime, don’t worry. You can begin building towards a great credit score and not to mention finance a vehicle even if it may seem impossible.

Creditors and lenders use your credit history to establish whether or not you’re trustworthy. If you hope to take out a loan in the future, or buy a house, you need to establish a good credit rating early on and nurture that relationship over the years. We have a few tips to help you build up your credit.

1) Check out your credit score

I know you think you have a zero credit rating, but are you sure? Make sure you have a clean slate before you begin to move forward. Sometimes things you would not expect can show up on a credit report such as an unpaid library fine and a forgetten medical bill etc. Doing a credit report check will help you know exactly where you stand so when you have a discussion with lenders, they won’t blindside you! It will also give you the opportunity to pay off any of the sneaky debts you may have accumulated.

2) Apply for an auto loan and/or credit card.

You are more than capable of securing an auto loan with zero credit. It you are new to the country you start with a blank slate and creditors will often give you a chance, merely at a higher rate. While the rate may be higher than if you had already esablished an impeccable credit score, with the right team working for you, you can find yourself an affordable payment plan that works with your budget and still find a high quality vehicle.

If you are not in the market for a vehicle, credit cards are also a great way to establish trust with creditors. Talk to your local financial institution about what card may work for you. If you are in the position, you could get both. It you’re looking for a card and are able to secure a low-limit credit card, go for it! Taking loans and paying them back is how you establish credit.

3) Make your payments in full and on time

When you enter into a loan agreement, make sure that you are signing up for affordable payments. When you take out a loan, you are expected to make timely payments and if you fail to do so your credit score will fall. No if’s and’s or but’s. When discussing your financing options with the financial services department, make sure you are open and honest about what you can afford and don’t feel pressured to commit to something that is out of reach. If you feel the agent is pushing you, move on to work with someone more trustworthy.

If you have gone the credit card route, make small payments on your card that you are able to pay in full. It is not enough to pay the minimum payments so be aware of your spending and know that the creditors are watching!

While it may seem overwhelming, especially if you’ve been turned down, to get your first loan and build your credit score with zero credit, it is possible! An auto loan is a great way to start building towards a great future credit rating if you are in the financial position to do so. Everyone needs reliable transportation regardless of credit ratings. Working with a reputable lender and team of financial professionals like the staff at Frank Myers Auto Maxx in Winston-Salem is a great way to work towards your financial future.

Ready For Fall At Frank Myers Auto Maxx

fall in Winston Salem, NCSo who’s ready for a trip to the beach? How about a glass of ice-cold lemonade? Perhaps another cook out? Not so much, eh? As much as we love the outdoor activities and flavors of summer, when fall swings around they just don’t appeal to us as much. Maybe it’s the cooler weather. Or maybe people just like what’s in season at the grocery store. (I don’t know, I just love food!)

Now don’t think that just because summer’s over that the fun is too—fall happens to be one of my favorite seasons. Frank Myers Auto Presents: It’s Tassel Time

It’s tassel time! Graduation season is in full swing and if you are anything like me, you’ve been procrastinating on finding the perfect gift for the special grad in your life.

Sure, cash is king and truth be told, that’s what I preferred when I graduated but sometimes you just want to do something a little more personal—something that makes an impact and says, “You’ve got a great future ahead of you, kid!”

Here are a few ideas that are sure to mean something to your grad, and will impact their future in a real, tangible way for the better!

A Book Bonanza

In this virtual age of the Kindle and the tablet, many forget the pleasure of sitting down with a hardcover book. Why not put together a collection of the most important books you’ve read over your lifetime? This thoughtful gift will bring rewards that far outlast a trip to Cancun or an iTunes certificate. To take this gift up a notch, personally inscribe each copy with a quote that you’ve taken from the book. This will “wet their appetite” and serve as a reminder of how much you value them. On a side note, a great book for the grad is Uncle Frank Sez. It’s written by the owner of Frank Myers Auto Maxx, Tracy Myers, and is packed full of “life advice”.

A Hope Chest (for ladies only)

What young lady wouldn’t cherish a place to stash their school memorabilia and the memories she’s created over her lifetime? Graduation is a perfect time for a young woman to gather up her mementos and take a trip down memory lane. This gift can be passed down to future generations. Engrave the chest with an inspirational quote to make it even more personal. Make sure and take her personal style into account when choosing a chest! While a nice cherry chest may work for some, other modern ladies would love white lacquer.

College Spirit Stash

Is your high school grad leaving for college soon? Help him or her arrive prepared by putting together a collection of goodies for his or her new alma mater. You can include everything from clothes to decorations, even a customized license plate. Your grad will surely appreciate arriving in spirited style the first day on campus.

Writing Kit

A high quality ink pen evokes success. Select a fine writing instrument for your grad. Pair it with customized stationery to set the stage for your grad to come across as serious and professional. Perhaps you’ll receive the first “very impressive” thank you note!

Luggage with Personalized Tag

Everyone should have at least one piece of fine luggage—at least that’s what my Grandma told me. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to buy this luxury, especially most graduates. Your favorite grad will be sure to appreciate this gift for years to come. Pair the bag with a personalized luggage tag to make it even more memorable. Who knows, maybe they’ll even take you on their next vacation, or at least send you a postcard.

Ok, time to go shopping or surfing! Graduation season will be gone before you know it so enjoy celebrating the next generation. Until next time . . .

Film Spotlights American Dream

(This article first appeared in Used Car News and was written by Jeffrey Bellant)

National Quality Dealer Tracy Myers and his Frank Myers Auto Maxx dealership in North Carolina are the focus of an Emmy Award winning film team’s latest project.

Car Men“, which had a black- tie premiere Nov. 17, tells the story of the dealership, which began as a general store 80 years ago.

A wider release is expected on Dec. 2, followed by a DVD release early next year, Myers said.

Myers is well versed in different types of media. In addition to writing the dealership’s blog, he has written newspaper articles and appeared on national television outlets, like Fox Business News and The History Channel, representing car dealers.

In late 2010, Myers appeared on motivational guru Brian Tracy’s syndicated television show.

He discussed the used- car business and the dealership’s history.

A producer from the show was so intrigued by the segment, he asked Myers if he would be interested in being part of a documentary about the business.

“ I didn’t think anything of it,” Myers said.

But the producer visited the lot, learned about how the dealership operates and convinced Myers take part in the documentary.

The production team came down a few months ago, interviewed family members and filmed for several days, Myers said.

Nick Nanton, the show’s producer, also helped make “Jacob’s Turn,” an Emmy Award-winning short film about a child with Down’s Syndrome playing on a teeball team.

Myers said once he’d heard that the production team won an Emmy, he figured they wouldn’t be interested in coming down to shoot the film about the dealership.

But they were still excited. “My wife and I are the only two people who have watched the finished project ( prior to the premiere),” Myers said. “ I know I’m partial, but I think it’s pretty amazing.

“ It’s an awesome legacy piece for my kids and grandkids. And for the industry, which I love. It shows the good side of what we do and the community side. It shows the heart and the hours that we put into it.”

Myers said he had an earlier offer from a different company to do a reality show, but it fell through.

The problem was how they wanted to portray the dealership and family.

“At every turn, they wanted to make us look like idiots,” Myers said.

He told them he wanted something positive, inspirational and motivational.

“ I have no problem with being funny and working our quirks into it, because we are quirky, ” Myers said. “ But you’re not going to make us look like a bunch of rednecks.”

Myers feels the documentary got it right.

“It’s a touching story about family, small business and the American dream.”

He’s gone on TV dressed up as a giant pickle. Nowadays, you’ll see him most often sporting a giant red, white and blue Uncle Sam hat.
